Let’s talk about how we use coffee table books to style. We have a library of our favourite coffee table books in storage at our studio to pull from when styling our schemes. The collection is tried and tested and includes new, as well as good quality second hand books. I love spending time in vintage or second hand book shops looking for books that will add character to a new scheme.

1. The blend of old and new is something we always talk about as designers and as much as we love having new reads on the coffee table, one or two lovingly sourced vintage books will instantly add a timeless feel to the space.
2. ⁠Always look for books that work with the size of your coffee table or console table. Think about scale, height, what you will place on top of them. Books are a great way of building height on a table to display.
3. ⁠Think about what you can see on the spine of the book not just the front. Do you want the books to blend on your bookshelf or make a statement with a pop of colour?

Autumn at the Lemon Tree Casita can be challenging

Autumn at the Lemon Tree Casita can be challenging with the colder temperatures and the heavy rains turning the building site into a muddy field but the shorter days also mean we decorate the small space for winter with lush cuttings from the garden, chop firewood for our log burner from some of the trees we felled to make space for the house build and walk most evenings amid the almond trees with our dog Maggie to soak up autumn’s golden glow. Our second winter in the casita and we hope planning will come through in spring 2025 so we can officially start the build for our dream home.
